Hazing Prevention Coalition

The Hazing Prevention Coalition is a group of University of Iowa students, staff, and faculty that have come together to address hazing in a coordinated effort to elevate the health and safety of student organizations, arts organizations, sports clubs, athletics, faculty and staff.

Charge:

  • Gain a better understanding of hazing on the University of Iowa’s campus through assessment, review of recent investigations, regulatory requirements for education, peer comparison and review of literature about hazing in college.

  • Create a comprehensive hazing prevention plan (education program, outreach, partnerships, consciousness raising campaigns) for students, staff, faculty, and family members. This will include new Federal requirements for education and opportunities to expand education for target audiences.

  • Identify professional development opportunities for faculty and staff about hazing prevention.

  • Examine the ways in which hazing may impact students with specific identities and life experiences.

  • Continue to review the University of Iowa’s policies and reporting mechanisms pertaining to hazing and make recommendations of any necessary changes beyond those required by the new 2024 regulation.
